Next week, the first ever Smokey and the Bandit run will start in Texarkana, Texas and roll into Atlanta, Georgia three days later.
I will be there.
And, I’m bringing my black 1979 Pontiac Trans AM.
The run, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of the film, is not a race or a rallye. No time, speed or distance event here, it’s a run what ya brung event where all are welcome. With stops in Tupelo, Mississippi, and Birmingham Alabama the pre-registration info looks like lots of folks will be driving their Trans Ams and Firebirds.
We arrive on Moday. After flying into Little Rock, I’ll be meeting up with friends from AUTOMOBILE magazine.
My assignment? Apart from providing the car and writing a sidebar article to the main one in AUTOMOBILE, I’ll be writing it for a major American newspaper as well as blogging right here every night.
Westbound and down!
